The Drop-In Fuels 2020 study takes a close look at the intersection of renewable jet fuel and renewable diesel, as they are both traditionally processed similarly in HEFA/HVO thermochemical refineries.  In addition, the study focuses on Fischer-Tropsch and Bio-Oil pyrolysis pathways for producing syncrude bio-oil that can then be upgraded in a traditional refinery process.

Looking down the road, it is clear the use of additional feedstocks from oil waste, agricultural residues, municipal solid waste and dedicated energy crops will be key to the commercialization of drop-in fuels from the 2018-2020 time frame. These are examined in detail, and evaluated via techno-economic analyses for utilization in various thermochemical, biochemical, and catalytic pathways.
